London-based artist Eleanor Davies is the creative force behind this magnificent, colossal pompom. Titled Over 200 Beautiful Colours, it is made from wool, newspaper, and rope and took two years to construct.

The yarn used for the project (and there’s a lot of it) was sourced from Freecycle.org (an online recycling network), purchased from mills in Yorkshire, or donated by Eleanor’s family and friends.

The photos of the construction process are just as fascinating as the finished piece. Here’s the pompom in progress–gorgeous isn’t it?

It took a pair of really sharp scissors to cut through all those layers. The exact weight of the sculpture is a mystery, but Eleanor did tell us that it takes five people to lift it.
