Hi Spud & Chloë Friends,
I finished the Outer Block Blanket and now the free pattern is available for you right here on Spud says! You may think that a blanket isn’t a good hot weather project but actually it is. The blocks are 10 inch squares which makes them small and portable. The stitch patterns I chose are simple but interesting and they all add great textural interest.
Here is some information you might like to know:
Finished measurements: 32-inches by 32-inches
Yarn: Spud & Chloë Outer (65% superwash wool, 35% organic cotton; 100 grams/60 yards), 1 hank each in Giggle #7215, Wave #7217, Sandbox #7212, Cedar #7209, Cornsilk #7208, Sequoia #7205, Carbon #7203, and Flannel #7201, and 2 hanks in Hedge #7201
Needles: US size 15, 24-inch circular and a spare needle in a similar size
Gauge: 2 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch
Ruler or tape measure
Crochet hook (used for provisional cast-on only) in US size P
I used a provisional cast-on that is done with a crochet chain. Click here for the video tutorial!
I used a 3-needle bind off to join the blocks into columns. Click here for the video tutorial!
I used the mattress stitch to join the columns of blocks vertically. Click here for the video tutorial!
I used the Russian bind-off on the border edges. Click here for a video tutorial!
I am pleased that just about every aspect of this blanket has a corresponding video tutorial available. This should be really helpful if you have any questions along the way.
I hope you enjoy this fantastically fun knit! Any baby would love to snuggle up in this squishy machine washable blanket. The Outer Block Blanket would also make the best lap blanket around for adults or older kids or teens. It feels like heaven when it’s on your lap. Trust me.
I hope you dive in and whip up this delicious treat of a blanket. The colors are perfect for the upcoming fall season or for any time of year in my book.
