Hi Spud & Chloë Friends,
Recently I finished a pair of socks that I am crazy about. Spud & Chloë Fine is heaven. In fact, I just received this comment on Ravelry from DoctorKnitter:
Hi, susanbanderson
I am writing to rave about the Fine Sock yarn. I can’t tell you (yet) what I am knitting because it is for a swap…suffice it to say that it is a pair of knee-high socks. Honestly, this yarn is INCREDIBLE. The silk adds a tensile strength that makes them feel like supportive stockings…and they have such a lovely sheen. Both these qualities were bonuses, since it was really the added warmth that made me interested in using the 80% wool 20% silk blend.
Will post a photo when complete. Just wanted to say, “Thank you.”
I couldn’t say it any better! Thank you, DoctorKnitter, for commenting.
Well, to make a long story short take a look at these gorgeous and fun socks by clicking right here! When I saw these awesome socks I could not stop thinking about them. I also could not stop thinking about how Spud & Chloë Fine has the perfect colors to recreate these socks. Off I went!
Now, because because the socks I made are practically identical to the socks in the photo I won’t be posting a pattern for these.
I will tell you a little bit about the socks I made though. I used a top-down sock with a simple broken rib pattern where you knit one round and then the next round is k3, p1 and then repeat! Also, I used US size 1 dpns for a dense fabric that is perfect for socks. These socks hug my feet and it feels so good. After debate about the type of heel to use I ended up with my good-old fashioned heel flap with a gusset. You can’t go wrong with that.
Here are the colors of Fine I used:
2 hanks Shitake
1 hank Sassafras
1 hank Tutu
1 hank Goldfish
1 hank Bumble Bee
1 hank Cricket
1 hank Glow Worm
1 hank Anemone
1 hank Calypso
Click here to see all of the gorgeous colors we have in Fine! The sky is the limit. Let me know if you are making a pair of socks like these. I would love to hear about it.
Don’t forget that when you are done with these stripey socks and you have all of the wonderful leftover Fine I have lots of patterns that will use all of that extra right up. Click here and here and here and here and here and here for a few ideas! My daughter, TC, now has a woman’s size 8 foot and her legs are looking mighty long! She is a sock stealer, too, and I love that.
I really am so caught up in Spud & Chloë Fine as of late. I am working away on another fair isle project in Fine that won’t be released for a little while.
I can’t get enough. Fine makes my work a joy. No one does color better than Spud & Chloë and Blue Sky Alpacas.
One more note, I have an exciting announcement to make. Hop on over to the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival site. I clicked on this site earlier and was startled to see my photo on the front page because I didn’t know it was up yet. It made me laugh. I will be teaching a Spud & Chloë at the Farm toy knitting class and I will be having a book signing at this fantastic fiber event! I am thrilled about it. The festival is May 20-22, 2011. If you are in the area I hope you will stop by. This will be my first sheep and fiber festival so I can’t wait.
Click here to see more about the event and my class and signing.
Thanks for all of the fun support on the new Spud & Chloë at the Farm book. The book is off to a roaring start and we couldn’t appreciate that more.
I’ll be back soon with lots more!
