New Curator, New Spring Collection

December 30, 2011

Hello Blue Sky Friends!

My name is Katie and I am the newest member of the Blue Sky Alpacas family. I’ve been a knitter for a long time. I learned to knit shortly after starting college. I fell hard and fast for knitting; so much so that I changed my college major! I graduated with a degree in Textile Design and Development and was even lucky enough to spend time studying in Peru. Alpacas are indigenous to Peru and so many yarns are manufactured within the country. During and for awhile after college I worked at my local yarn shop, honing my skills and knitting chops for about four years. My passion continues to never waver. And now, lucky for me I find myself applying everything I’ve learned about yarn from school, abroad, and from my wonderful customers at the local yarn shop, to my new position here at Blue Sky Alpacas. It is the best fit and I am so ecstatic to be here.

It is with great pleasure that I am able to introduce Blue Sky’s newest, latest and greatest design collection. This collection is our Spring 2012 line complete with new yarn colors. You can  find the digital catalog right here, or perhaps you can peruse in person at your local yarn shop. You will notice as you delve into the second half of the catalog that it contains our sister company, Spud & Chloë’s Spring 2012 Collection as well. There will be more information on these patterns on the Spud & Chloë Blog shortly.

The first design featured in our catalog is the Siivet Pullover, designed by Vladimira Cmorej. It is knit using Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca Silk. This yarn comes in thirty-three of the most stunning shades imaginable. (With three more released with this collection!). I absolutely love this top! I can see wearing the Siivet with just about everything; dress pants, jeans and pretty much any skirt. It could be really funky with leggings and boots or business casual with a pencil skirt and heels. The construction is also straightforward and logical. The whole sweater is worked in two pieces, making it a garment that I think I would be able to wear a ton and actually accomplish. I am absolutely smitten with the idea of making the Siivet for myself in Blueberry (140). This is an intense, glowing blue. One of my absolute top three colors in the Alpaca Silk palette, it is just the right blue that goes with khaki and brown pants, dark and light denim, as well as black and gray trousers. I am so excited that this piece is going to have to move up the queue. The other factor insuring this pieces wear-ability is the fiber content, 50% alpaca and 50% silk. Absolutely perfect for spring and fall, but still just right in winter when buildings are kept warm and summer when every place you go is over-air conditioned. I am truly excited to start this piece for myself.

Well, my Blue Sky dears it is great to “meet” all of you. Look for me on Blue Sky’s Facebook, Twitter, and Ravelry group too! I’ll have more insight into our catalog, the amazing design collection and stunning colors contained within shortly. There are just so many exciting things to talk about. I’ll also provide some interviews and insight from the designers themselves, it won’t always just be me gushing. We hope you enjoy this collection as much as we enjoyed putting it together, we are so excited and proud.

Just keep knitting, knitting, knitting…

Katie
