Fall into Knitting

September 26, 2016

Fall is here, for knitters that means it's time to start working on those pieces you've been holding out on. Comfy sweaters, giant cowls, and sweet cardigans for the kiddos - this is our season.

This fall is particularly exciting for us at Blue Sky Fibers with our newly released Woolstok yarn. That line along with our new patterns fit perfectly into what we are seeing and loving with hand-knitting trends. Simple design with interesting textural contrast, neutrals with pops of earthy colors, along with a comfortable fit and loose gauge. We're focused on knitting things that are functional in every day life and look good on every body. Here's our favorite looks for fall 2016 knitwear through the lens of Blue Sky's fiber, color, and pattern choices.

Fibers

The cooler the weather, the warmer the fiber. Alpaca is such an amazing yarn to knit with, and it's luxurious warmth is much appreciated come fall. We have a lot to work with in this department, we used to be called Blue Sky Alpacas after all. We're also warming up to more wool in our lives. While the texture of wool can vary, all of our lines are super soft and high-quality. These are the fall fibers on our needles:

Patterns

Here are our favorite warm basics for the season. Lately we've been doing a lot of double-knitting for warmth, texture, and color play options. We're also embracing basic stitches, when you're making an item for everyday wear we think that simple is better, and sometimes there is nothing prettier than a rib to stockinette stitch contrast. Finally, and we think most importantly is fit. We love a loose drape that softly keeps it's shape around the neckline and on the sleeves.

Color

Being the color enthusiasts that we are, we were quite excited to check out Pantone's Fall 2016 Fashion Colors. And what did we see? Woolstok. We couldn't believe how well our new line of wool matched their color selection. So much so that we wrote an entire blog matching our yarns to the color trends of this year, but here are a few of our favorite selections:

"Blue skies represent constancy as they are always above us. Grays give a feeling of stability, Red tones invite confidence and warmth, while the hot Pinkish Purples and Spicy Mustard Yellows suggest a touch of the exotic."
