Behind the Scenes: Who Makes the Shade Cards?

October 22, 2015

Blue Sky Alpacas is fortunate to partner with a great organization called Industries Incorporated, located nearby in Cambridge, MN. They are responsible for making our shade cards, which we send to our stockists so that they have small samples of yarn colors in each of our lines, along with all of the yarn details printed on each card.

The mission of Industries Incorporated is to support people with disabilities and other challenges by providing training and employment services, resulting in greater independence in their communities. Believing that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect, Industries Incorporated encourages their employees to feel empowered to meet and exceed their own expectations; through education, they are also encouraged to exercise informed choices.

Industries employs 100 workers and we are lucky enough to have 7 of them assigned to work on our shade cards. Today, we would like to share our recent visit with our blog readers.

On this particular day, 4 shade card wrappers were hard at work: Cassie (above left), Jennifer (above right), and Becky and Tabitha (below from left to right).

This group works 3-5 days per week, taking great pride in their attention to detail. When asked what they liked about wrapping the yarn, they all responded, “it is relaxing.” Each day they get to select which yarn and color they will be working on; each person has a favorite color, with blue and pink at the top of the list.

Industries Incorporated was founded back in 1966 and began working with Blue Sky Alpacas in 2013 – each year, they wrap over 10,000 cards for us! It was a delight to meet everyone during our visit so that we could express our appreciation for the work they do each day. The positive impact this organization has on our community is immense, and we are fortunate to play a small role in it!
